If I wasn’t so busy taking over Andre’s job I would have time to think about it. But as it is, I seem to be the only one with a sense or responsibility around here. It started on Saturday. Jon and Patty were having some guests over in the afternoon. Jon thought it would be nice to give the boys a bone.
Why he did that I cannot fathom. I like Jon, really I do. But some days he is so dense. I mean get real!
Give those two a bone? What was he thinking?
It was Saturday morning. Everyone knows what that kind of a day is like.
Andre was supposed to be on squirrel patrol. So was Pudge. So what did they do?
Gnawed on their bones.
The only time they stopped was to look at the other one’s bones because it was probably better than the one they were chewing on.
I looked out the window and knew it was all over. A squirrel was tootling along over by Jon’s truck not more than 50 yards from Andre. Did he notice? Did he care? Did he do anything about it?
Looked over at Pudge. Same story. A hundred squirrels could have come in and taken over the whole place. Lot they cared.
My hands were tied because the folks had closed me in the house. I had to bide my time. Wait.
Next morning I was out doing what needed to be done.
Somebody had to do it.
As I came back I heard Patty talking to Jon about where I might be. I knew both of them had been going in and out of doors looking for me.
Patty figured it out first. I heard her telling Jon, “You hear that squirrel scolding in front somewhere?”
He said, “Yeah.”
She said, “Buddy is responsible for that.”
“Darn right, I was responsible! Chased the stupid guy up a tree.”
Hoped he learned a lesson but probably not. I came in and had a bite to eat and then took a little snooze on the couch.
No idea when and if Andre and Pudge will get back on the job. At least it’s been taken care of for the moment.
